Leather Goods

Led by Angela Moschini

Inside the world of high-end pelletteria — from raw hide to finished leather goods. Students learn how leather is selected, cut, assembled and finished, with visits to two producers in the Florence–Prato manufacturing district.

The technical heart of fabric construction — yarns, weaves, finishings, and the industrial processes that turn fibre into the textiles used by the world's leading fashion houses. Includes two visits to textile producers in the heart of the Tuscan textile district.

Communicating Italian Fashion

Led by SSML Pisa Faculty

How Italian luxury speaks to the world. Storytelling, intercultural communication, brand identity, export language and the cultural codes that turn craftsmanship into global appeal — taught by faculty in languages and international communication.

Material knowledge

The fundamentals of textile and leather: how a fabric is constructed, how leather is worked, the characteristics of raw materials and how they shape the final product. The technical foundation on which everything else is built.

Product development

The full cycle that turns a creative idea into a finished garment or leather goods piece ready for production. Sampling, prototyping, technical specs, fittings — the journey from sketch to shelf.

Fashion industry & communication

How a contemporary fashion company is structured — design, production, sourcing, merchandising — and how Italian luxury communicates with global markets through language, storytelling and intercultural codes.

Programme Structure

How the 40 hours unfold.

Two weeks built around three specialised streams and direct access to the Florence–Prato manufacturing district — where Italian fashion is made.

  • 12h Leather Goods studio with Angela Moschini — materials, construction, product development
  • 12h Textile & Materials studio with Flavia Cassiano — fabric construction, finishings, industry dynamics
  • 10h Communicating Italian Fashion with SSML Faculty — intercultural communication, storytelling, brand language
  • 6h Company visits in the Florence–Prato manufacturing district — leather goods and textile producers

Company visits take place in the Florence–Prato manufacturing district, with organised transport from Pisa.
